Tuesday was a very uneventful day driving to Seligman Arizona where I got back onto route 66. I stopped for the night at Grand Canyon Caverns RV Park. A way over priced, run down park that probably saw it's peak when Route 66 was still active. Water and electric for only $38.00 per night. To top things off for the day rain and hail capped the evening.
Wednesday has been the best day of the week. It included a visit to The Keepers of the Wild animal sanctuary. Here is what they are all about:
Keepers of the Wild is a 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to the protection of abused, neglected, abandoned and retired captive wildlife. To provide the best standard of care and help enforce the humane treatment of all animals.

Keepers of the Wild provides a permanent home and true sanctuary to all the animals it rescues.
The wind flared up after leaving Keepers of the Wild so I completed Route 66 into Kingman and then headed to Blake Ranch RV Park for the night. I think this will be my farthest west this year and will start back east tomorrow, weather permitting.
It's sad when people just have to have an exotic or wild animal as a pet until it suddenly gets too big for them to take care of. They should be responsible to pay for its food for the rest of its life.

It's about time.
We talked about that today. Federal law says 80 pounds or six months they can no longer be used for photo ops so they lose their value and become discards. I agree that if they are used their future is the responsibility of the owner.
DeleteI am so grateful that there are people who are willing to dedicate their lives and money to saving these wonderful animals. Have you been to the Wolf Sanctuary in NM? It's mainly wolf/dog hybrids because they are illegal in most places.

Haven't made it to the Wolf Sanctuary yet, hope to some day.
DeleteI agree on $38 being excessive and this was for water and electric only. No sewer in the park. Not likely I'll be back.
What a cool place and such caring people. I don't think we think enough about the poor animals. I couldn't do that job though. I get too attached and would want to take them home or cry for them. Maybe I wouldn't take the bear or tiger home...:)
